New born have long and fast growing nails, and you will feel worry that baby will scratch his face. It’s difficult to cut nails before one month so, use mittens or keep him wrapped up so his hands aren’t near his face.
When baby is 9-8 weeks, nails become harder that time you can cut them carefully. Gently hold baby’s hand and start cutting, the easiest way to trim your baby’s nails is to just peel the ends off with your fingers as they’re soft that the surplus will come away easily or you can even buy a pair of baby scissors or nail clippers with specially rounded ends. It would be better if two adults are involved in cutting nails as one can hold baby and other can cut his nails.
You can even cut your baby’s nail while he is sleeping or you are feeling him. If you accidentally nick the skin, try not to worry. Gently hold a piece of clean, damp cotton wool to the site and apply a little pressure. The bleeding will soon stop.
Remember, Cut the nail around the curve of the finger, and his toenails straight across. However don’t cut down the side of his nail, as this may cause ingrown nails and infections and if they are not too long don’t cut them.
